How do I read the Bible?

Reading the Word of God daily is not about understanding everything you read. It is not about memorizing scripture. It is not about studying to defend your doctrine. It is about us learning who God is. Begin with the understanding that the Bible is God's love letter to you. The Lord wants you to know Him not just words on a page. God will honor your effort and the Holy Spirit will do the work in your heart. You will begin to understand what is right by knowing the nature and character of your Heavenly Father. Do not worry if you do not fully understand what you read. The Holy Spirit will be your teacher. Ask your Pastor for help in understanding scripture that seems hard to grasp.

Set aside a time frame of about 15 minutes each day. Try to make it the same time each day. In the mornings, at lunch or before bed. Remember most importantly you are trying to form a habit of daily Bible reading. You will gain insight & understanding as you develop. If you miss a day of reading just pick up where you left off. God is not going to punish you if you take longer than 1 year to read the Bible. He is thrilled that you are making the attempt.

The KWJWD through the Bible 1-year guide is designed to make daily Bible reading easier.
The guide has you read a complete book of the Bible before changing books. The daily reading breaks at the end of whole chapters as compared to stopping at a verse. This means some days you will read a little more than other days. You will read one gospel account each quarter. Psalms and Proverbs are sprinkled throughout the whole year. You read a little in Psalms about once every two weeks and Proverbs about once a month. You will begin to see a more complete picture of God.

Remember this is just one tool to help you draw closer to God. God promises to draw close to us when we make the effort to draw close to Him. We are also told in Hebrews 11:6 that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Begin reading His Word and He will reward you beyond your imagination.

When you finish reading the Bible through start over again. Also write us and share with us how God has moved in your life as a result of daily Bible reading. We will send you a certificate of completion when you write us.
